If you own one business in GTA Online, own the Acid Lab.

Forget the Kosatka for a moment. Set aside the Agency. The Nightclub can wait. The Acid Lab comes first.

Here is why: it costs zero dollars to unlock, the upgrade is $750,000 — half the price of a Kosatka — and a full batch of acid sells for roughly $335,000 to $527,000 depending on where you deliver and whether you renamed your product. Sell missions take 5 to 10 minutes. Always one vehicle. Always solo. You can do the entire thing in an invite-only lobby with zero risk of getting blown up by a bored Oppressor pilot.

For a new player building their first $2 million, the Acid Lab is the bridge between “I have nothing” and “I can afford the Kosatka.” For an experienced player who already owns everything, it is an extra $500,000 that slots neatly between Cayo Perico cooldowns and Nightclub safe collections.

This guide covers the full setup, the upgrade that doubles your profit, the naming trick that adds 5%, and every sell mission type so you never fail a delivery.

What the Acid Lab Actually Is

The Acid Lab is a mobile drug lab built inside a Brickade 6×6 truck. It was added with the Los Santos Drug Wars update in December 2022, but most players overlooked it because they were too busy running Cayo Perico on repeat. That was a mistake then. With Cayo nerfed in July 2026, ignoring the Acid Lab is an even bigger mistake now.

Why the Acid Lab Is Different

Two things make the Acid Lab stand out from every other business in the game:

First, the setup missions are free and they pay you. The six First Dose missions not only unlock the Acid Lab — they pay roughly $250,000 in total first-time bonuses. You literally get paid to unlock your own business. Name another property that does that.

Second, the sell missions are genuinely solo-friendly. Every other business has some catch. MC businesses give you three Post Op vans and 30 minutes to deliver them alone across the map. Bunker sales hand you a Dune FAV with mines you will inevitably blow yourself up with. The Nightclub is fine — one vehicle, always — but costs $5 million minimum to set up. The Acid Lab costs nothing to start and roughly $1 million to max out. And every sale is a single vehicle with reasonable drop-offs.

Of course, the trade-off is production speed. A full batch takes roughly 3 to 4 hours to cook — 2 hours and 30 minutes with the Equipment Upgrade. That is slower per hour than Cayo Perico. But you do not need to be online for it. Buy supplies for $60,000. Go do something else for two and a half hours. Come back. Sell for $500,000. That is $440,000 profit for roughly 7 minutes of driving.

How to Unlock the Acid Lab (Free)

The Acid Lab is unlocked by completing the six First Dose missions. These are contact missions given by Ron Jakowski and Dax, the leader of the Fooliganz. They are not heists. There is no setup cost. You do not need any property to start them.

How to begin: look for a yellow “R” marker at Ace Liquor in Sandy Shores. This is Ron’s icon, not the usual contact mission blip. It appears in the northern part of the map. Drive there. Answer the call. The first mission starts.

The Six Missions (All Solo)

Here are the six First Dose missions, in order:

MissionWhat You DoApproximate TimeDifficulty
Welcome to the TroupeSteal a Brickade 6×6 from the Lost MC, deliver it to the Freakshop~10 minEasy
Designated DriverDrive a tripping Fooligan to the Freakshop while he hallucinates~8 minEasy
Fatal IncursionInfiltrate a Lost MC clubhouse, kill everyone, steal a trailer~12 minMedium
Uncontrolled SubstanceDefend a warehouse from waves of Lost MC while Dax cooks product~10 minMedium
Make War Not LoveAttack a Lost MC compound with a weaponized crop duster, steal supplies~15 minHard
Off the RailsDestroy a Merryweather train, steal the cargo, escape pursuing units~12 minHard

Total: roughly 65 to 75 minutes. All six missions are playable solo. The enemies are mostly Lost MC bikers — not military-grade Merryweather units with thermal helmets and explosive rounds. If you have played through the Kortz Center heist setups, these missions feel like a leisurely bike ride by comparison.

What You Get for Completing All Six

When the dust settles, here is what you walk away with:

  • The Brickade 6×6 (the truck itself, with a basic lab inside)
  • Roughly $250,000 in first-time cash bonuses
  • Access to Dax’s Fooligan Jobs (side missions that unlock the Equipment Upgrade)
  • Access to the Acid Lab production business

The Freakshop — a warehouse near the casino with a giant purple Fooliganz mural on the side — becomes your Acid Lab’s home base. The Brickade parks inside. You manage supplies, production, and sales from the lab equipment in the back of the truck.

The Upgrade That Makes It Worth Doing

The base Acid Lab that comes out of the First Dose missions is bad — painfully bad, honestly. Production creeps along at a glacial pace. Product value sits low enough to make you question why you bothered. Consequently, you will look at the numbers and wonder why anyone recommends this business.

Then you buy the Equipment Upgrade. All of a sudden, everything changes. Everything changes.

Equipment Upgrade ($750,000 via the Freakshop laptop)

This upgrade doubles your production speed and significantly increases the value of each unit of acid. Without it, a full batch takes roughly 5 to 6 hours and sells for roughly $200,000. With it, a full batch takes roughly 2 hours and 30 minutes and sells for $335,200 to $502,800 depending on where you sell.

You buy the upgrade from the laptop inside the Brickade, parked in the Freakshop. The option appears after you complete 10 Dax Fooligan Jobs. These are short side missions accessed by calling Dax on your phone and requesting work. Each takes 5 to 10 minutes. Do them between your regular money activities — one or two per session — and you will unlock the upgrade naturally within a week of casual play.

There is a way to save $250,000 on this. Stash houses — those purple house icons that appear randomly on the map — sometimes reward you with free acid supplies. Occasionally, they also discount the Equipment Upgrade. If you raid stash houses regularly, you might pay $500,000 instead of $750,000. I have seen it happen once. A friend says he has never gotten the discount in over 40 stash house raids. It is not reliable. Budget the full $750,000 and treat any discount as a bonus.

Acid Name Bonus (5% extra)

In the interaction menu under Acid Lab, you can rename your acid product. Doing this adds a 5% value bonus to every sale. On a $500,000 sale, that is an extra $25,000 — for typing a name once. Call your acid whatever you want. The game does not care. You could name it “Liquid Assets” or “Retirement Fund.” The bonus is the same.

Five percent sounds small. Over 50 sales, it adds up to roughly $1.25 million. For five seconds of typing. Do it.

Production: Supplies, Time, and Profit Math

Buying vs. Stealing Supplies

The Acid Lab uses supplies like every other passive business. One full supply bar costs $60,000 to purchase from the laptop. One full supply bar produces roughly half a batch of acid. You need two supply purchases — $120,000 total — to fill the product bar completely.

Alternatively, you can steal supplies instead of buying them. However, steal missions take 5 to 8 minutes and fill roughly 20% to 40% of the supply bar each. If you enjoy the missions, steal. If you value your time, buy. $60,000 is one Payphone Hit worth of work — roughly 5 minutes. The steal mission takes the same amount of time and fills less than a full bar. Mathematically, buying supplies and spending that time on a Payphone Hit nets you more money.

Meanwhile, there is one exception to the buy-vs-steal math: steal missions unlock Mutt, your lab assistant, who occasionally calls with product delivery bonuses. These are rare and the bonus is small. Not worth grinding steal missions for. Buy supplies. Move on.

Production Time

Without Equipment UpgradeWith Equipment Upgrade
One unit of product~10 minutes~5 minutes
Half batch (supply bar empty)~3 hours~1 hour 15 minutes
Full batch~5-6 hours~2 hours 30 minutes

A full batch consumes roughly 2 to 2.5 full supply bars. Production continues while you are doing other activities — heists, contact missions, races, whatever. The only requirement is that you are logged into GTA Online. Production pauses if you log out entirely. It does not pause when you are inside a mission or heist.

The Daily Stash House Trick

Every real-life day, one stash house spawns on the map. Raid it — a 3 to 5 minute activity — and you get a free full supply bar for one of your businesses. If the Acid Lab is the only business you own with a supply bar (or if your other businesses are full), the stash house always refills the Acid Lab.

This means, optimally, you buy one supply bar for $60,000 and get the second one free from the daily stash house. Total input cost: $60,000. Total output: a full batch of acid worth roughly $335,200 to $502,800. Net profit: roughly $275,000 to $442,800 per batch.

That is the best effort-to-reward ratio of any passive business in the game. The Nightclub warehouse earns more over time but costs $5 million to set up. The Acid Lab earns less per batch but costs a fraction of that. For a solo player with limited cash, the math is not close.

Sell Missions: Every Type and How to Handle Them

Regardless of which mission type you get, all Acid Lab sell missions use a single delivery vehicle — usually the Manchez Scout motorcycle. You never drive a slow box truck. You never get multiple vehicles. The delivery points are spread across the map, but the bike is fast and the timer is generous.

Mission TypeVehicleWhat HappensDifficulty
Standard DeliveryManchez ScoutDrive to 5 drop-off points. Park in the yellow circle. Throw acid. Leave.Easy
Police StingManchez ScoutFirst drop is a trap. Lose the cops using off-road terrain. Then deliver to the real 4 points.Medium
Parking Garage AmbushManchez ScoutDeliver to a parking garage. NPC enemies spawn. Kill them. Finish the delivery.Medium
Roadblock InspectionManchez ScoutDrive through 3 roadblocks. NPCs inspect your vehicle. If they find the acid, they attack.Hard
Drop-off Under FireManchez ScoutEnemies attack at each drop point. Kill them before delivering, or toss the acid and run.Medium

Tips for Every Sell Type

Two tips that apply to every sell type:

Use the Manchez Scout’s off-road ability. This bike climbs hills that would flip a regular motorcycle. If enemies are chasing you, go off-road. Most NPC vehicles cannot follow you up a 60-degree slope. The Manchez can.

Sell in an invite-only lobby until you are comfortable. The public lobby bonus is up to 50% extra — turning a $500,000 sale into $750,000. But failing a sale because a random player blew up your bike earns you zero. The safe $500,000 is better than the risky $750,000 when you are building your bankroll. Once you have a comfortable cash cushion, experiment with public lobby sales. The bonus is real money.

For the Parking Garage Ambush specifically: do not enter the garage at ground level. Drive up the outside ramp. Kill the enemies from above. They cluster near the delivery point on the middle floor. A single grenade or a few assault rifle headshots clears them. It is the same ambush layout every time.

Where the Acid Lab Fits in Your Money Rotation

The Acid Lab is not your main income source. It is the gap filler. Production runs in the background while you do active money methods. Your rotation, assuming you own the full set of solo businesses, looks like this:

  1. Buy acid supplies — $60,000, 30 seconds at the Freakshop laptop
  2. Run Cayo Perico — or Kortz Center, if you own the Mansion — for active income
  3. Empty Nightclub safe — $50,000 per visit, once every 48 minutes to 2 hours
  4. Payphone Hit — $45,000 in 5 minutes, call Franklin
  5. Bunker sale — if a batch is ready
  6. Acid Lab sale — when the product bar hits full, roughly every 2.5 hours of online time

One Acid Lab sale per real-life play session is a realistic target. You log in. Buy supplies. Play for two to three hours doing other things. Sell the acid before you log off. That is an extra $440,000 net profit per session without any dedicated grinding time.

Common Mistakes

Mistake 1: Buying the Brickade before doing First Dose.
You do not buy the Acid Lab. You unlock it by completing the First Dose missions. The Brickade 6×6 on Warstock is a different vehicle — a personal vehicle variant without the lab equipment. If you buy the wrong one, you just spent $1.45 million on a truck that cannot cook acid. Do not buy anything from Warstock. Go to Ace Liquor in Sandy Shores. Do the missions.

Mistake 2: Skipping the Equipment Upgrade.
The base Acid Lab without upgrades earns roughly $200,000 per batch in roughly 5 to 6 hours. That is awful — roughly $33,000 per hour of production. With the Equipment Upgrade, it earns roughly $500,000 in roughly 2.5 hours — roughly $176,000 per hour of production. Not buying the upgrade turns the Acid Lab from one of the best solo businesses into one of the worst.

Mistake 3: Not naming your acid.
Free 5% bonus. Takes five seconds. There is no reason not to do this. I genuinely do not understand players who skip it. It is free money. Take it.

Mistake 4: Selling in a public lobby before you know the sell mission types.
Learn the five mission types in invite-only first. Figure out which ones you can handle smoothly. The police sting is the trickiest — you need to lose a 3-star wanted level while NPC helicopters track you. Practice that one a few times. Once you can clear every mission type without dying, then try public lobbies for the bonus.

Mistake 5: Treating the Acid Lab like a grind.
The whole point of passive businesses is that they work while you do not. Buy supplies. Do something fun. Come back. Sell. If you sit in the Freakshop watching the product bar fill up, you are wasting time you could spend on active income methods that pay more per minute.

FAQ

Is the Acid Lab better than the Kosatka for a new player?

Yes — as a first purchase. The Acid Lab costs $0 to unlock and roughly $1 million to fully upgrade. The Kosatka costs $2.2 million just to buy, plus another $1.8 million for the Sparrow to make prep efficient. By the time a new player saves $4 million for a full Cayo setup, they could have unlocked the Acid Lab, upgraded it, bought a Bunker, and still had money left over. Start with the Acid Lab. Use the profits to buy the Kosatka. Full order in our beginner money guide.

How long does a full acid batch take?

Roughly 2 hours and 30 minutes of online time with the Equipment Upgrade. Roughly 5 to 6 hours without it. This is wall-clock time spent in GTA Online — you do not need to be actively doing anything related to the lab.

Can I sell the Acid Lab?

No. Once you complete the First Dose missions, the Brickade and the Freakshop are permanently attached to your character. You cannot sell them. You cannot downgrade. The Acid Lab will sit there forever, available whenever you want to use it. This is actually a good thing — it means you can ignore it for months and come back with no penalty.

Is the Acid Lab worth it if I already own everything?

Yes. It earns roughly $176,000 per hour of passive production. That is worse than Cayo Perico per active minute, but better than the Nightclub per passive hour once you factor in setup cost. The Acid Lab batch sells in 5 to 10 minutes. Slot it between your Cayo runs and Nightclub sales. It is free money that you already unlocked. Use it.

What is the best location for the Freakshop?

There is only one Freakshop location — near the casino, off the highway. You do not choose it. You do not pay for it. Dax gives it to you after the first First Dose mission. It is central enough that most sell mission routes start and end conveniently. Some sell missions begin at the Freakshop; others spawn your delivery bike at a random location near the lab. Neither is worth worrying about.

I Ran the Acid Lab for Three Months Before Writing This

Here is something these guides never tell you: the sell missions get boring.

Not hard. Not frustrating. Just boring. Drive a motorcycle to five yellow circles. Park in the designated spot. Toss a duffel bag onto the ground. Then drive to the next one. After your 30th sale, you could do it with your eyes closed. The police sting mission adds exactly 30 seconds of excitement — lose the cops by driving into the desert — then it is back to the same five circles.

But boring is not the same as bad. Reliable beats exciting when your bank account is on the line. If the mission is predictable, you never fail a sale because some new BS mechanic caught you off guard. What looks like monotony actually means you log in, collect your $500,000, and move on with your life. The Acid Lab is the most boring good business in GTA Online. And I mean that as a compliment.

If you want excitement, however, run the Kortz Center heist. On the other hand, if you want to pay for that Mansion you just bought, run the Acid Lab.

The Bottom Line

The Acid Lab is the best first business in GTA Online because it costs nothing to start, pays for its own upgrade in two sales, and delivers consistent solo income with zero risk. It is not the highest earner — Cayo Perico and the Nightclub beat it over time — but nothing else at the $1 million price point comes close.

Unlock it for free via the First Dose missions. Complete 10 Dax Fooligan Jobs to qualify for the Equipment Upgrade. Buy the upgrade for $750,000 or less. Name your acid for the free 5% bonus. Buy supplies. Sell when full. Earn roughly $500,000 per batch in exchange for 5 to 10 minutes of driving.
