GTA+ is Rockstar’s monthly subscription. It launched in March 2022 for GTA Online players. It costs $7.99 a month. And with GTA VI launching November 19, 2026, the question is simple: should you subscribe before then, after launch, or not at all?
The answer depends on what kind of GTA player you are. If you grind GTA Online daily, GTA+ already pays for itself. If you only play single-player, it is a waste of money. And if you are waiting for GTA VI, the math gets more interesting — because Rockstar has hinted that GTA+ benefits will carry over into the new game.
Here is exactly what you get, what carries over to GTA VI, and whether $7.99 a month is worth it.
GTA Plus Subscription: What You Get Right Now
GTA+ gives you monthly rewards in GTA Online. But the value does not depend on what the rewards cost Rockstar. It depends on what they would cost you in real money or grinding time.

So the hard numbers: $7.99 a month gets you roughly $3-4 million GTA$ worth of assets and cash if you claim everything. Buying that much GTA$ through Shark Cards would cost $40-50. And even accounting for the grind (you could earn it in 8-12 hours of gameplay), the subscription saves either money or time.
What Carries Over to GTA 6?
Rockstar has been deliberately vague about this. But several things point toward GTA+ benefits extending to GTA VI.
In May 2026, Rockstar updated the GTA+ FAQ with language that referenced “future Rockstar titles” rather than limiting benefits to GTA Online. Separately, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told investors in a February 2026 earnings call that “GTA+ is a long-term platform strategy, not a promotional tool for one game.”
What this likely means for GTA VI:
- GTA$ balance may transfer. If GTA VI uses the same currency system — likely, given GTA Online’s integration — your monthly GTA$500k deposits and accumulated balance could carry over.
- Hao’s Special Works is almost certain to return. HSW was a PS5/Xbox Series exclusive feature that added performance upgrades. GTA VI is next-gen only. It makes no sense for Rockstar to build HSW for two years, restrict it to old-gen GTA Online, and then drop it.
- The Vinewood Club garage concept may return. A 100-vehicle garage in Vice City would be a selling point. GTA VI is confirmed to have more vehicles than any previous GTA — you will need somewhere to put them.
- Monthly free vehicles will continue. New cars every month keeps players logging in. This is a retention mechanic, not a GTA Online-specific feature.
However, what will NOT carry over: properties, businesses, and anything tied to the Los Santos map. GTA VI is a new city. So your GTA Online penthouse and bunker stay in Los Santos.
GTA Plus Subscription: Who Should Subscribe Now
Subscribe before GTA VI if you:
- Play GTA Online at least 10 hours a month. The free vehicle and GTA$500k alone cover the $7.99 cost versus grinding or buying Shark Cards.
- Want to accumulate GTA$ before the November launch. Eight months of GTA+ (April to November 2026) deposits GTA$4 million into your account — that is $40-50 worth of Shark Card value for $64 in subscription fees. If that GTA$ balance transfers to GTA VI, it is a cheap head start.
- Care about exclusive vehicles and cosmetics. GTA+ vehicles often remain exclusive for months before becoming available to all players. If you collect cars, the subscription is the price of early access.
On the other hand, wait until GTA VI to subscribe if you:
- Do not play GTA Online at all. Paying $7.99 a month for a game you are not playing, hoping the benefits transfer, is speculation. There are cheaper ways to gamble.
- Only play single-player. GTA+ has zero single-player benefits right now, and GTA VI’s story mode will not require a subscription.
- Want to see the exact GTA VI benefits first. Rockstar will announce what GTA+ includes for GTA VI before launch. There is no reason to subscribe before that announcement.
GTA Plus vs Shark Cards: The Real Math
If you buy Shark Cards to skip the grind, GTA+ replaces them. First, here is the comparison:

GTA+ delivers GTA$ at roughly one-quarter the price of Shark Cards. But there is a catch: you must log in and claim the rewards. If you miss a month, you lose those benefits, and they do not stack.
For context, GTA$42 million is enough to buy everything you need in GTA Online — all businesses, all vehicles worth owning, all weapons and upgrades — with millions left over. So if Rockstar allows any portion of that to transfer into GTA VI’s economy, a year of GTA+ before launch is the cheapest money-to-GTA$ conversion available.

GTA+ launched at $5.99 in 2022 and then increased to $7.99 in early 2025. So Rockstar has already raised the price once. And with GTA VI launching, expectations are another price increase to $9.99 within 12-18 months — which makes the current $7.99 rate worth locking in if you plan to subscribe long-term.
How to Buy GTA Plus
Buying GTA+ takes about two minutes. You do not need to go through the in-game pause menu, although you can. Here are both methods.
Method 1: Through the in-game pause menu (easiest)
- Load into GTA Online on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
- Open the pause menu, go to the Online tab, and select “GTA+ Membership.”
- Choose “Subscribe” — the game redirects you to the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store.
- Confirm the $7.99/month purchase. You will need a payment method saved to your console account.
- Return to GTA Online. Your first batch of rewards (GTA$500,000 and the current free vehicle) appears in your account within minutes.
Method 2: Through your console store directly
- Open the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store on your console.
- Search for “GTA+” or “Grand Theft Auto Plus.”
- Select the monthly subscription, not a one-time purchase. Confirm $7.99/month.
- Launch GTA Online. Same as above, rewards arrive in your account automatically.
Important: GTA+ is a recurring monthly subscription. It auto-renews at $7.99 every 30 days until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from your console’s subscription management menu. If you cancel, you keep the rewards you already claimed, but you lose access to new monthly benefits and the Vinewood Club garage at the end of your current billing period.
Can you buy GTA+ with a gift card? Yes. If your PlayStation or Xbox account has store credit from a gift card, the subscription charge pulls from that balance first. This is useful if you want to pre-load exactly $7.99 per month rather than keeping a credit card on file.
Is GTA Plus a monthly subscription?
Yes. GTA+ is a recurring monthly subscription that costs $7.99 per month. It auto-renews every 30 days. You can cancel at any time from your PlayStation or Xbox subscription settings. It is not a one-time purchase. There is no annual plan available either. The only option is month-to-month.
How much does GTA+ membership cost?
GTA+ costs $7.99 per month on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no discount for committing to multiple months. The price was $5.99 when GTA+ launched in 2022. Rockstar raised it to $7.99 in early 2025. A further increase to $9.99 is possible after GTA VI launches, based on the pattern of subscription services raising prices as they add content.
What We Still Do Not Know
Several things still remain unconfirmed. For now, do not subscribe on assumptions.
- Exact GTA VI integration. Rockstar has not detailed which GTA+ benefits transfer to GTA VI and which stay in GTA Online. The “future titles” language in the FAQ is suggestive, not contractual.
- Separate GTA VI subscription tier. It is possible Rockstar launches a higher-priced “GTA+ Premium” tier for GTA VI, leaving current $7.99 subscribers with reduced benefits in the new game.
- GTA$ economy balance in GTA VI. If Rockstar resets the economy (new currency, or inflated prices that make GTA$ from GTA Online nearly worthless), accumulating GTA$ now would be pointless.
- PC availability. GTA+ is not on PC. GTA VI is not launching on PC. When the PC version arrives in 2027-2028, GTA+ may or may not be available on that platform.
GTA Plus Subscription: Bottom Line
So GTA+ is worth $7.99 a month right now if you actively play GTA Online. After all, the monthly benefits — free vehicle, GTA$500k, business discounts — add up to more value than the subscription costs, especially compared to Shark Cards.
However, if you do not play GTA Online but are considering subscribing purely to build a GTA$ balance for GTA VI, wait. Rockstar has not confirmed GTA$ transfers. And paying $64-$96 over the next 8-12 months on an assumption is a gamble.
But if you plan to play GTA Online and GTA VI, subscribe now. In short, the math favors it. A year of GTA+ costs less than one Megalodon Shark Card and delivers four times the GTA$ — some of which may follow you to Vice City.
