The GTA Online weekly update for August 27 through September 3 is built around drifting and Random Transform Races. The short version: race players have a strong weekend, Auto Shop owners have a decent reason to log in, and money-focused players should not abandon their usual heist route just because a large multiplier is on the banner.

The reported activities, rewards, and vehicle rotation below were checked against multiple GTA Online update trackers on August 27. Rockstar had not yet published a matching Newswire post when this article was written, so recheck the in-game menus before buying anything expensive.

Quick answer: Play selected Drift and Transform Races from August 28 to 30 for the 6X weekend window. Outside that window, Auto Shop Robbery Contracts are the safer choice if you want repeatable GTA$ rather than a race-focused week.

GTA Online Weekly Update: The Payouts That Matter

This week has three useful payout tiers. They are not equal.

ActivityReported rewardWho should care
Selected Drift and Transform Races, Aug. 28–306X GTA$ and RPPlayers who already enjoy racing or want to level Car Meet Rep
Random Transform Races3X GTA$ and RPAnyone who wants the new race rotation without waiting for the weekend
Drift Races2X GTA$, RP, and LS Car Meet RepDrift-focused players working toward the weekly challenge
Auto Shop Robbery Contracts2X GTA$ and RPPlayers who own an Auto Shop and prefer missions over racing

The 6X weekend bonus is the headline, but it lasts only three days. It is a good bonus, full stop. It is not proof that every race is suddenly the best cash method in the game.

I would use the weekend multiplier for variety and Car Meet progress, then return to a proven money route when the bonus ends. A multiplier only matters if you can finish the activity quickly and enjoy repeating it.

For a heist-based alternative, our Kortz Center Heist guide covers the current activity loop. Solo players can also compare the time commitment with the Cayo Perico solo route.

Five New Races and Three Drift-Tuning Options

Five new Random Transform Races join the rotation: three Known Unknown races and two Unknown Unknown races. The point of this mode is the forced vehicle change. You are not simply choosing your favorite car and running the same circuit.

Three vehicles are also reported as newly eligible for Drift Tuning upgrades:

  • Annis Elegy Retro
  • Vapid Dominator GTT
  • Invetero Coquette

That does not mean you should buy all three. Check whether you already own one, then try it in a race first. A new upgrade option is not automatically a good purchase for a player who only wants GTA$.

The official GTA Online page and Rockstar Newswire are the final places to check if a rotation changes during the week.

The Weekly Challenge Is Easy, but Read the Fine Print

The reported weekly challenge is to take part in three Drift Races for GTA$100,000. You do not need to win; completing the races is enough.

There is a second reward tied to the Übermacht Cypher: complete a Drift Race in that car to receive the Glitch Camo drift livery within 72 hours. That livery is cosmetic. Do not buy a Cypher solely for it unless you wanted the car anyway.

This is the sensible order:

  1. Run three Drift Races with a vehicle you already own.
  2. Claim the GTA$100,000 challenge reward.
  3. Only then decide whether a Drift Tuning purchase fits your garage.

Good enough. Do not turn a free challenge into a multi-million-dollar shopping trip.

This Week’s Vehicle Rewards

The vehicle list matters most when the prize is something you would have bought anyway.

Reward or rotationVehicleRequirement or location
Lucky Wheel podium vehicleKarin Sultan ClassicOne spin per real-world day at the Diamond Casino & Resort
LS Car Meet Prize RideDinka Veto ClassicFinish Top 5 in the LS Car Meet Series for four days in a row
HSW Premium Test RideImponte Arbiter GTHao’s Special Works
Luxury Autos rotationPfister Astrale; Grotti Itali ClassicRockford Hills showroom
LS Car Meet Test RidesCheval Taipan; Vapid Flash GT; Invetero Coquette D5LS Car Meet

The Dinka Veto Classic challenge needs four separate real-world days. Start early if you want it. Missing a day can make the prize more work than it is worth.

The Karin Sultan Classic is the better low-effort attempt: spin once each day, then move on. Its regular listed price is reported as GTA$1,718,000, but the wheel is chance, not a plan. Treat a win as a bonus.

Discounts: Buy for Your Garage, Not for the Red Price Tag

Reported 30% discounts include the Cheval Taipan, Vapid Flash GT, Invetero Coquette D5, Annis ZR350, RC Bandito, Karin Technical Aqua, Buckingham Howard NX-25, Western Company Duster 300-H, and Obey I-Wagen.

The Gun Van also reportedly discounts the Military Rifle by 30%. GTA+ members may see a 40% Precision Rifle discount.

Here is the boring but useful filter: buy only if the vehicle unlocks an activity you already play, fills a missing class in your garage, or was on your personal list before this week. A 30% discount still spends 70% of the price.

A Simple Plan for This Week

If you own an Auto Shop

Run the weekly challenge first, then use the 2X Auto Shop Robbery Contracts when you want money without racing. The bonus is active through the normal weekly reset, while the 6X race bonus is not.

If you like drifting

Save your longer session for August 28 to 30. Complete the three-race challenge, test one of the newly eligible Drift Tuning cars if you already own it, and use the 6X window before it expires.

If you only care about maximum cash

Do the three races for the GTA$100,000, take your daily Lucky Wheel spin, and keep using the activity that normally gives you the best money for your available time. This week is entertainment-first. That is fine, but it is not for every player.

FAQ

When does this GTA Online weekly update end?

The normal reset is expected on September 3, 2026. The 6X Drift and Transform Race bonus is reported to run only from August 28 through August 30.

Do I need to win Drift Races for the GTA$100,000 challenge?

No. The reported requirement is participation in three Drift Races, not three wins.

Are Auto Shop Robbery Contracts better than 6X races?

It depends on your race times and whether you already own an Auto Shop. The 6X window can be attractive for skilled racers, while 2X contracts are a more predictable choice for players who dislike racing.

Should I buy a new Drift Tuning car this week?

Only if you want to keep using it after the event. The weekly challenge can be finished with three races, so a purchase is not required for the GTA$100,000 reward.

Is the Rockstar Newswire post live?

At the time of writing, the in-game rotation had been reported by several weekly-update trackers, while Rockstar’s public Newswire listing had not yet shown a matching August 27 article. Check the game or Newswire before making a purchase based on a rotating offer.

Bottom Line

This GTA Online weekly update is worth your time if drifting, Random Transform Races, or Auto Shop contracts are already part of your routine. Run the easy three-race challenge, use the 6X window if you enjoy the mode, and do not buy a car just because the game has put it in front of you.

The best week in GTA Online is the one that fits how you actually play. Everything else is a flashing discount sign.
